The MAD SHARK Bread Knife is an 8 inch serrated knife with an ultra-thin blade of German 1.4116 molybdenum vanadium stainless steel, hardened to 56+ HRC, and a stainless steel handle. The thin grind lets the teeth saw through a crusty loaf without squashing the soft crumb inside.

  • Even sandwich slices and clean bagel halves
  • Cake layers, and fruit with a tough rind like watermelon

Care

Hand wash and dry it right after use. Don't run a serrated edge through a standard pull-through sharpener. Our How to Sharpen a Kitchen Knife guide shows how to touch up serrations one at a time with a tapered rod.

Questions

Is 8 inches long enough for a sourdough boule? Yes, for most loaves. The 205 mm (8.07 in) serrated blade is made to cut thick, even slices from large loaves and sourdough rolls. On an extra-wide boule, start the cut from one side, then turn the loaf and finish from the other.

Is it dishwasher safe? MAD SHARK's spec sheet says yes. We still hand wash knives and dry them right away, which is easier on the edge.

Why use a serrated knife for bread? The teeth bite into a hard crust and saw through it, where a straight edge tends to skid and press the loaf flat.
